South African grocery giant Checkers has launched its branded airplane just in time for the festive season.
Grocery giant Checkers, which operates over 260 stores in South Africa, has launched a bold new approach to brand visibility by taking to the skies with its first branded airplane. This move highlights the role of its efficient supply chain in serving customers across the country. The vibrant teal Airbus A320 is emblazoned with “Sixty60” logos on each side, representing Checkers’ popular on-demand delivery service. In contrast, the “Checkers” logo is prominently displayed on the underbelly for maximum visibility from the ground.
The aircraft Marked its debut on Thursday, 24 October, and was first spotted at OR Tambo International Airport, sparking excitement among travelers and aviation enthusiasts alike. In partnership with the award-winning airline LIFT, this initiative marks a unique milestone for South African grocery retail, emphasizing Checkers’ supply chain strength and commitment to rapid service nationwide.
The plane, however, completed its maiden flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town at 10 a.m., marking a strategic leap for Checkers to reach beyond traditional branding channels. Over the coming months, the branded aircraft will operate on scheduled routes between Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, connecting major hubs and underscoring Checkers’ dedication to an efficient service that supports customers throughout the busy summer season.
For aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters, the aircraft can be tracked online via its registration number ZS-GAS. In celebration of the festive season, Checkers is promising something “extra special” to help bring loved ones together.
