The company says it is gaining strong momentum across South Africa, including in townships and rural areas, thanks to strategic local partnerships.
As South Africa experiences a surge in demand for on-demand shopping, consumers are seeking more convenience, affordability, and speed, all while navigating supply challenges. To address these needs, The SPAR Group launched its cutting-edge online platform, SPAR2U, in July 2022. Since then, the platform has quickly expanded, growing from just 87 sites in its first year to 525 by September 2023. “From just 87 sites in 2022 to over 500 today, Spar2U has recorded a 285% year-on-year surge in orders and now leads the market in value. Importantly, its collaboration with KasiD and Delivery KA Speed is helping to overcome long-standing last-mile delivery challenges in areas like Ivory Park, Mamelodi and Hammanskraal,” the company revealed.
“While urban areas have quickly adopted online grocery shopping, rural and township communities have traditionally been underserved due to logistical challenges, including a lack of navigation systems, high crime rates and poor infrastructure,” The company explained.
Through its partnership with KasiD and Delivery KA Speed, SPAR is overcoming significant barriers in grocery delivery, making it easier to reach township communities such as Mamelodi, Ivory Park, and Hammanskraal. These areas, which have traditionally faced logistical huddle, now benefit from increased ease and reliability in accessing essential groceries. By addressing these challenges head-on, the company is not just improving access but is actively transforming the way underserved communities shop for food.
